The Rotary Club of Sioux City donates $20,000 to Chris Larson Park
The Rotary Club of Sioux City had the honor to provide new and updated playground equipment for Sioux City’s Chris Larsen Park with our 2011 Youth Work Fund Grant. Our membership pledged both financial and volunteer support to the City of Sioux City to help offset the cost of restoring the park after it was engulfed by the Missouri river flooding of 2011.
In July our membership presented a check to the City of Sioux City for $20,000 and in September was able to volunteer alongside city staff to work on the park by spreading wood chips and seeding the surrounding area. Several Rotarians in the club were able to both feel the joy and excitement from helping financially and putting the final touches on the park with their own hands. Our club’s membership was successfully able to bring this park back to life for the benefit of our communities youth. A Park that was even named after a Rotarian itself; past Rotary club president Chris Larsen Jr.
Each year membership selects a project to fundraiser for under our club’s Work Youth Fund Grant. It has become a beacon of pride for our club each year as our members work to strengthen our community’s youth, promote volunteerism and Service above Self.
